We Could Use Your Help!

Our volunteers range from ages 4 to 85 years old. We are always looking for volunteer readers and for help at our warehouse.

Interested in Becoming a Volunteer Classroom Reader?

Do you have a love for reading books aloud with children? Do you have 30 minutes once a month from October-May to share with a classroom of 3rd or 4th grade students?

The Link to Libraries Read Aloud Program was created to connect students with volunteer readers who are excited to share their passion for reading. Knowing that by increasing a child’s access to books we greatly increase their chances of becoming proficient readers, this program also provides students with brand-new books to help them build their own home libraries.

Volunteer Spotlight

Gail Baquis

Favorite Book: I read constantly, but my favorites include The Book Thief, Where the Crawdads Sing, The Feather Thief, and In the Land of the Armadillos.

Favorite Reading Memory: I loved to give book reports in school, perhaps a precursor to being in book clubs! I used to walk to my library in Bangor, Maine every week in the summer because they had a contest. I read the books and then discussed them with the librarian. After a certain number of reports, I received prizes, and of course, I kept reading!

Favorite Place to Read: My favorite place to read, when the weather cooperates, is on our porch in a comfy chair!

How Did you Become Involved with Link to Libraries: Sue Kaplan called me in 2008 and said, “I have an idea!”. She explained how public school libraries in the area needed new books. The rest is history!

Why is Volunteering for Link to Libraries Important to You: Budget constraints make it difficult for schools to acquire new books for their libraries. Some children cannot easily get to their local public library on a regular basis and choose a book to read for the sake of reading. I am honored to be part of an organization that helps make reading a lifelong habit.

WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF HELP LABELING BOOKS!

If you would like to schedule a time for you and a group to come to our warehouse and label, please contact Laurie Flynn at lflynn@linktolibraries.org.
